Sharp-Tip Test Leads for Four-Terminal Resistance Measurement

The L2142 Test Leads are designed for precise DC four-terminal resistance measurements with the HIOKI RM3548-50 Portable Resistance Meter. In contrast to the L2141, they feature sharp, spring-loaded pogo-pin tips on both leads, allowing stable electrical contact by penetrating paint, oxide layers, and other surface coatings to reach the conductive base material.
This makes the L2142 ideal for resistance verification on coated or oxidized metal parts, such as grounding checks on painted frames, busbars, motor housings, and other conductive structures where surface preparation is impractical or undesirable.
Each lead pair is configured for four-terminal measurements with separate SOURCE and SENSE conductors, minimizing the influence of lead resistance and ensuring accurate, repeatable low-resistance measurements. The gold-plated pogo-pin tips (Ø 3.55 mm) provide excellent conductivity and long service life, even during frequent measurement cycles.
Each tip applies approximately 1.2 kg of contact pressure at a 4 mm stroke, helping maintain reliable electrical contact on coated surfaces. The partially joined cable section simplifies handling and reduces cable clutter, while the split probe section enables flexible positioning across widely spaced measurement points.
With a total cable length of 3.0 m and a branch point after 1.0 m, the L2142 offers ample reach for both bench-top and field applications, including measurements on large equipment and structures.
The L2142 is particularly suitable for DC resistance measurements on painted or oxidized metal surfaces where coating penetration is required. For clean, machined, or otherwise sensitive metal surfaces where coating penetration is not desired, the L2141 Rounded-Tip Test Leads are recommended.
Although originally developed for the HIOKI RM3548-50, the L2142 is also compatible with the earlier RM3548 and other DC four-terminal resistance meters featuring compatible connectors.
